Chuck’s Liver Journey
To His 41st Day
About Chuck
Chuck McRaney is a licensed clinical social worker with Gentiva Hospice. Every day, he devotes his life to walking alongside patients and families during the most difficult moments they will ever face—offering comfort, dignity, humor, and hope when it’s needed most. He has spent his career caring for others without hesitation. Now, it’s our turn to care for him.
The Journey
In 2021, Chuck was diagnosed with nonalcoholic liver cirrhosis. What began as a frightening diagnosis has continued to progress despite treatment, and he is now officially listed for a liver transplant. This is a road no one ever wants to walk, but Chuck has faced it with strength, faith, and quiet courage.
As he waits for “the call” that will change everything, which we have learned can come a lot faster than you think, Chuck is navigating frequent medical appointments, hospital stays, and the emotional toll that comes with living in uncertainty. When the transplant happens, he will be required to be off work for at least 2–3 months to recover and heal.
Day 41 is coming
Forty days is the season of testing, the waiting, the stretching of faith until it feels thin and tired. Jesus was tempted for forty days in the wilderness, and it wasn’t on day one that the victory came — it was after the forty, when He stood firm and overcame. It rained for forty days, and the flood felt endless, but on day forty-one the rain stopped and the promise of dry ground began. Forty is the trial; forty-one is the turning point. If you’re in the middle of your forty, don’t quit — breakthrough doesn’t announce itself early. Day 41 is where endurance turns into victory, where survival turns into testimony.
Support the Journey
We are raising funds to help cover Chuck’s medical and living expenses during this time, including basic needs while he is unable to work. The funds will also help offset the costs for friends and family members who will take time off from their own jobs to be present and care for him before and after transplant. No one should walk through this season alone, and Chuck is surrounded by people who are ready to show up for him—just as he has shown up for so many others.
If you are able to give, please know that every donation—no matter the amount—will make a real and meaningful difference. If you’re unable to give, prayers, shares, and words of encouragement are just as valuable. Thank you for loving Chuck, supporting him, and standing with us as we rally around someone who has given so much of himself to others.

More than 100,000 people are waiting for a lifesaving transplant. Transplants rely on the generosity of organ, eye and tissue donors, and there are not enough donors to meet the need. You can help. Click on Chuck’s Message below to read about the importance of organ donation
A Message From Chuck (Click here to read)
Donate Life.
I have seen these words and this logo more in the last three days than I have in my entire life. They are everywhere now—on walls, paperwork, screens, badges. But more than that, they are etched into my heart.
Maybe it’s because they suddenly mean something different.
Maybe it’s because for the first time, they aren’t just words.
They are personal. They are sacred. They are heavy with meaning.
Somewhere in this nation right now, there is a family living their worst day. A day they never imagined they would face. A day filled with shock, heartbreak, and a grief so deep it settles into your bones. They are saying goodbye to someone they loved fiercely—someone who had a laugh, a story, favorite things, inside jokes, and a place at their table that will never be filled the same way again.
Their loss is devastating. And yet, in the middle of that pain, they chose love.
To be an organ donor is brave.
It is selfless.
It is choosing to give even when everything has been taken from you.
Somewhere there is a mother saying goodbye to her son, memorizing his face, wishing for just one more moment.
Somewhere there is a father holding his baby girl one last time, whispering words she can’t respond to but can surely feel. Somewhere there is a husband or wife leaning in close, finishing vows that promised in sickness and in health… even unto death.
I am not unfamiliar with grief.
I’ve studied it.
I’ve been trained in it.
I’ve lived it.
And I witness it every single day through hospice.
Even with all of that, the weight of what this family must be experiencing breaks my heart in ways I can’t fully explain.
There is nothing I can do right now to say thank you to this person.
No words.
No gesture.
Nothing that could ever fully honor the magnitude of this gift.
This individual clearly believed in donating life. Their legacy is literally saving others. And if sharing this logo, if pausing for just a moment, gets even one person to consider being an organ donor—then something meaningful comes from unimaginable loss.
I carry gratitude, humility, and sorrow all at once. I do not take this gift lightly. Not for a second.
I hope and pray that I live a life worthy of this liver.
That I honor this person in how I love, how I serve, and how I show up in this world.
That every breath I take reflects the depth of this sacrifice.
This is more than a transplant.
This is love continuing when words are no longer possible.
And I will never forget it.
